Yes. Our online GP service allows you to request a sick note following a remote medical consultation, where clinically appropriate.
The duration depends on your medical condition and the GP’s clinical assessment. Notes may be issued for short-term or longer periods if justified. Being an online service, we see ourselves as a stop gap for short term illnesses when its hard to see your own regular NHS GP. If you need longer than 2 weeks, we would expect you to see your own GP.
No. Sick notes are issued at the GP’s clinical discretion and only where medically appropriate following an assessment. You could instead be given an “amended note” which states that you can work but with amended duties, hours or workplace adaptation. You are paying for a consultation with an online GP for an assessment, not for a sick note.
Yes. Digital sick notes (fit notes) are legally valid in the UK and are accepted by employers. A fit note is advisory rather than legally binding, meaning it provides medical advice about your fitness for work. While employers are expected to consider it, the final decision on workplace arrangements rests with the employer.
In some circumstances, a GP may backdate a sick note based on clinical judgement, but this is not guaranteed.
