Answers To Frequently Asked Questions

Airlines have a duty to prevent the spread of infectious diseases on board. A clearance certificate from a GP confirms that you are no longer infectious and are safe to travel with other passengers, in particular to pregnant women and the frail.

Chickenpox is usually no longer infectious once all lesions have crusted over, you have been fever-free for at least 24 hours, and you feel well. Our doctors assess this based on your history and visual examination.

During the video consultation, the GP will ask you to check your temperature and show your lesions on camera. Having someone to help move the camera ensures we can view areas like your back clearly.

We aim to issue chickenpox flight clearance certificates the same day or within 24 hours of your consultation, subject to the doctor confirming you meet the criteria.

Our certificates are doctor-signed PDFs written to standard airline and public health requirements. You should check your airline’s specific form or wording, which we’re happy to complete.

The document typically includes your details, date of onset, confirmation of crusted lesions, absence of fever, and a GP statement declaring you fit to fly.

No. If any lesions remain uncrusted, chickenpox may still be infectious. The GP will advise you on timing and when to rebook for assessment.

The doctor will explain what criteria are outstanding and the safest timeframe for travel. A new assessment can be arranged once lesions have healed.

Most airlines accept certificates dated within a few days of travel. We recommend booking the assessment close to your departure date.

Please have a digital thermometer available and good lighting for your camera. If your airline has sent a form, upload it before the appointment.
